Does this really matter? A note from Shannon-May

Lately, I’ve found myself wrestling with a quiet, persistent little voice. One that asks,

“Does this really matter?”

We’re a retail shop, after all. We don’t sell necessities. We’re not doctors or scientists or activists. We’re not saving lives or changing the world.

We’re a small shop in a small town, tucked on the edge of the Atlantic, offering beautiful things that might seem, at first glance, like just… things.

But then I look a little closer.

Almost every piece we bring in—every candle, card, tea towel, art print, treat and more—carries the story and skill of another woman. A woman who dreamed something up, made it with care or leads with passion, and is now building a life, bit by bit, because people like you chose to support her work.

And I remember: this does matter.

When you choose to shop with intention—especially when you choose to support Canadian brands, makers, and small businesses—you’re helping build something that’s more than economic. You’re helping create a culture of care. A quieter kind of commerce that uplifts, empowers, and connects.

You’re helping women-led businesses grow. You’re helping artists and makers turn creativity into independence. And you’re turning everyday gestures—a housewarming gift, a thank-you note, a cozy moment with a candle or a new tea towel—into something with multiple layers of meaning.

You’re reminding us all that business doesn’t have to be cold or disconnected. It can be thoughtful. Beautiful. Purposeful.

We’re not trying to save the world here at Marmalade. We’re just trying to make it feel a little more lovely. A little more connected. A little more human.

And we believe that matters.

With so much gratitude,
Shannon-May

P.S. Thank you for believing in what we do—and for choosing to shop Canadian, shop women-led, and shop with heart. We’re here whenever you need us.
